To Catch an Art Thief

The Scream, Edvard Munch, Nasjonalmuseet, The Fine Art Collections

Sotheby’s, 1 & 2 St George Street, London

Richard ‘Dick’ Ellis, former head of New Scotland Yard’s Art Squad, will unravel the intricacies in finding and recovering stolen art. He will reveal how his leads include an international network of both law enforcement officials and criminals. Dick has solved several high profile cases including the theft of Edvard Munch’s The Scream from Norway’s National Gallery, and Audubon’s Birds of America lifted from the State Library in St. Petersburg.

11:00-12:00pm

This panel forms part of the Brave New Visions events programme. Brave New Visions tells the stories of the pioneering émigré dealers and publishers who helped turn London into a global centre for contemporary art in the 1940s-1960s. It highlights their impact by showing the art they championed. This major exhibition, hosted by Sotheby’s, is part of Insiders/Outsiders, a year-long nationwide arts festival celebrating refugees from Nazi Europe and their indelible contribution to British culture.
