The Berlin Blues Cabaret
3 October 2019 7:00 pm
Free
Brixton Library, London
National Poetry Day 2019
This will be an opportunity to celebrate the poetry of the late Beata Duncan with selections from her collections Apple Harvest (Hearing Eye), Berlin Blues (Green Bottle Press) and the forthcoming Breaking Glass (WritesideLeft Press), all of which will be on sale on the night.
Her poetry will be introduced and performed by her son Brixton poet Stephen Duncan and family, with songs composed and performed by the celebrated Brixton singer and composer Andreas Demetriou and friends, musicians Stavroula Thoma and Myra Sands.
With themes of migration and the refugee experience her poetry is both timely and wise.
‘magnificent and humane… her poetry is pitch-perfect, gloriously exact.’ Julian Stannard
‘Her voice… lends her work an authority we can trust…’ Hugo Williams
A free event supported by the Friends of Tate Library Brixton with refreshments and all are welcome!
