Martin Bloch is well-known for his landscape paintings\, architectural and city portraits. Dr Grant is Bloch’s granddaughter and can\, therefore\, offer both academic and personal insights into the artist and his work.

SUMMARY:Maurice Blik Plasters: The Artist at Eighty
DESCRIPTION:Maurice Blik Plasters\nSculpt Gallery\, Gt. Braxted\, Essex\nAn exhibition of artist’s plasters of recent sculptures to celebrate the artist’s Eightieth Birthday. The exhibition will also include original sketches and limited edition etchings. Born in Amsterdam\, Holland in 1939 and having survived Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child\, Maurice Blik arrived in the UK aged seven with two surviving female members of his family. The ability to come to terms with this and to confront the face of humanity that he had witnessed\, stayed silent in him for some forty years until it found a voice in the passionate and exquisite sculpture he began to produce in the late 1980s.

In 1948\, he moved to Mousehole\, Cornwall\, where he continued to work as an artist\, but his style changed dramatically\, reflecting the trauma he had suffered. His works are held in numerous galleries world-wide\, including Newlyn Art Gallery. DESCRIPTION:Theatre by the Lake in Keswick\, Cumbria\n  \nRefusing to let the minor inconvenience of being dead inhibit his boundless energy and creativity\, the legendary painter\, sculptor\, collagist\, printmaker\, typographer\, performer\, writer and poet Kurt Schwitters has hijacked the body of British actor Paul Brightwell in order to re-present Merz\, his one-man art movement\, live on stage. \nSchwitters left Germany in 1937 for exile in Norway\, until the Nazi invasion in 1940 prompted his escape to Britain. After 18 months’ internment he lived in West London before moving with his companion Edith Thomas to Ambleside in Cumbria\, where he lived and worked until his death in 1948. \n  \n\n7.30pm – 8.45pm
